Introduction: Royal Jasmine is climbing shrubs,
2-4 m. Branchlets are round in cross-section, angular or grooved. Leaves are
opposite, pinnately cut or compound with 5-9 leaflets. Leaf-stalks are 0.5-4
cm, leaflet blade ovate or narrowly so (terminal one usually narrowly
rhomboid), 0.7-3.8 x 0.5-1.5 cm, base cuneate or blunt, apex acute, acuminate,
or blunt, sometimes mucronate. Flowers are borne in terminal or axillary,
2-9-flowered cymes. Bracts are linear, 2-3 mm. Flower-stalks are 0.5-2.5 cm,
middle pedicel of cymes conspicuously shorter. Sepals are subulate-linear, 5-10
mm. Flowers are white, opening flat-faced, tube 1.3-2.5 cm, petals often 5,
oblong, 1.3-2.2 cm. Fruit is not seen.

Benzyl alcohol[5%], Indole[2.5%], Benzyl benzoate[3%], Cis-jasmone[3%],
Gerniol[10%], methyl anthranilate[0.5%], p-cresol, farnesol, cis-3-hexenyl
benzoate, cis-jasmone and methyl-jasmonate.
Medicinal
uses: It
is popular as an alternative to standard western allopathic medicine for a
variety of problems, including cancer (specially of the bone, lymph nodes and
breast) stress relief, anxiety as well as depression.The
flowers are acrid, alexipharmic and useful in diseases of heart, diabetes, biliousness,
burning sensation, thirst, diseases of blood, skin, mouth, teeth and eyes. The
whole plant is anthelmintic, diuretic and emmenagogue.
Folk medicinal uses
The leaf juice is applied to remove soft
corns between toes. A paste of the leaves
is usually applied to wounds.
