Geographical contribution
It occurs throughout India but more
abundant in river bank’s and moist localities.
Chemical distribution
Bark contains tannin.
Therapeutic uses
Bark is analgesic, astringent,
carminative, diuretic, stimulant, suppurative and
tonic. It is also useful in bilious
affections, diabetes, dropsy, dysentery, diarrhoea,
menorrhagia, haemoptysis, seminile decay
and small pox. Figs are astringent, stomachic
and carminative.
Folk medicinal uses
The dried fig is given in doses of 180
gm. with honey menorrhagia, haemoptysis
and dysentery. A powder of the leaves is
given with honey to check bilious disorder.
The latex is given in piles and
diarrhoea in doses of two to three drops. It is used
with Haldi and sugar in gonorrhoea.
